Busta Rhymes Recalls Having To Duct Tape His Stomach Down Before Weight Loss: It Was One Of The Most Difficult Reality Checks In My Life

Busta Rhymes is opening up about his weight loss journey.

On an upcoming episode of The Tamron Hall Show, the “I Know What You Want” rapper got candid about what caused him to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

He admitted that while shooting the music video for his recent song Czar, released in October, he had to duct tape his stomach.

“Confession. When I shot that video, there is a scene of me wearing all white with a headwrap. When I initially put that all white on, it showed how badly out of shape that I was on camera. So, we went in the dressing room and they duct-taped my stomach down with electric duct tape.”

He added:

“It was difficult, it was probably one of the most difficult reality checks in my life.”

By the time the music video was released, Busta Rhymes was ready to show off his significant weight loss since filming.

Busta Rhymes also opened up about a near death experience as he admitted in November that he went from 267 to 340 lbs after losing his father. He said that his oldest son later witnessed his sleep apnea which was such a bad episode that it scared him.

“My son got so scared that he talked to the security about this fear that he had, to the point where, my security the next day pulled me to the side to have a real heart to heart conversation with me.”

A turn around for him came after experiencing years of losing his voice. A trusted doctor discovered polyps on Busta Rhymes’ vocal cords and prescribed prednisone steroids for immediate effect when the rapper had a performance.

But it wasn’t until one day after visiting another Los Angeles-based doctor that he found out how much the troubled polyps had grown.

According to Busta, the doctor said,

“Your polyps grew so big that it blocked 90% of your breathing passage, and if I send you home tonight and you sleep under the A/C and catch a cold, and that last 10% of your breathing passage gets blocked up, you’re going to die tonight.”

Busta Rhymes proceeded to have successful emergency surgery on his throat, but the near-death experience combined with the emotional conversation about his son’s fears were enough to make him turn his life around.
